Newly appointed CEO, CFO or other C level with responsibility for legal and contract elements of a business.
-
You’ve just been appointed CEO or CFO and you want to have a quick impact on the business before you get swamped with the day to day. You also want to make sure that you haven’t inherited in any ticking time bombs.
The service comes in two parts.
Part 1 - Diagnose. Review the current legal practices of the business, and create a short report on what’s working, what’s not working, where the real problems are, and what can be done to fix things.
Part 2 - Fix. Implement the recommendations of the report, and fix the problems.
-
Part 1 - fixed price, based on scope and the nature of the business.
Part 2 - fixed price, based on scope and the desired to-be (ie. the recommendations from the Diagnostic) . You don’t have to use me to carry out the Fix (ie. you could use internal resources, or other external resources). The Diagnostic report is designed to be implementable by anyone.

Do Nothing. Cheap, and doesn’t consume any time, but is just storing up problems for later.
DIY. If you are the incoming CEO, CFO or other C level, then you won’t have the time.
If you appoint an internal to do the work, then a) they are unlikely to have the expertise, and b) they are probably so used to the existing regime (and have a vested interest) that they won’t see the issues.
Appoint external. A good choice if you can find someone who has a) enough knowledge of the sector so that you don’t end up paying for their learning curve, and b) enough inhouse experience (and understanding of process) to make their insights meaningful. Beware of theoreticians.
Appoint me, because I have:
strong sector knowledge which minimises false starts and faffing around with approaches that don’t make sense for the sector.
good understanding of process. Like any other business activity, a good understanding of process is needed if you want to be effective over time and at scale.
an in-house background means that advice and work is grounded in the pragmatic.
